Design of renovations to improve this historic 5,400-square-foot structure are underway, featuring 11-foot ceilings, intricate woodwork, 100-year- old oak floors in pristine condition, a ballroom, and more, to its former splendor.
The mansion was reportedly built for Matthew Rankin Kennedy II, who made his fortune trading in cotton and cattle, and whose distinctive tastes led to a unique combination of architectural elements inside the building, including American Craftsman, inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement in the late 19th Century.
Hollingsworth Pack is providing structural engineering consulting alongside the Murrell Office for Development and Architecture.
The structural scope includes includes strengthening the wood-framed structure, which has exceeded its design service life, to meet modern commercial live load requirements by reinforcing floor, wall, and foundation members, and replacing decayed elements.
