Located in one of the most remote inhabited regions of the world, this concept renovates and modernizes an aging residential facility to support long-term operations in an extreme Arctic environment.
The design transforms a mid-century building into contemporary housing through a comprehensive renewal of the building envelope, interior systems, and resident amenities. New high-performance assemblies improve energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and durability while addressing the unique challenges of severe cold, snow accumulation, and high winds.
The project goals incorporate upgraded mechanical, electrical, and life-safety systems, resilient infrastructure, and modern living spaces designed to support year-round occupancy in a demanding polar climate.
